A Crown of Swords: Book Seven of ‘The Wheel of Time’ by Robert Jordan

Blurbos Rating (3.7)

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I thought the prologue might never end! A Crown of Swords started the slog for me, and even though it’s a fairly long read, I think I did the least amount of highlights throughout.

Ebou Dar and the Gholam were all pretty interesting, but they happen towards the end of the novel.

A lot of pretty decent character development, but if you’re looking for plot development, you might need to wait for the next one (or maybe the 11th, if the rumors are true).

Highlights

“The White Tower will be whole again, except for remnants cast out and scorned, whole and stronger than ever. Rand al’Thor will face the Amyrlin Seat and know her anger. The Black Tower will be rent in blood and fire, and sisters will walk its grounds. This I Foretell.”

There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

Life is a dream—that knows no shade.
Life is a dream—of pain and woe.
A dream from which—we pray to wake.
A dream from which—we wake and go.
Who would sleep—when the new dawn waits?
Who would sleep—when the sweet winds blow?
A dream must end—when the new day comes.
This dream from which—we wake and go.

The Ogier’s final attempt at heartening went further than Loial intended. “I am sure Faile can look after herself, Perrin. She is not like Erith. I can hardly wait for Erith to make me her husband so I can tend her; I think I’d die if she changed her mind.”

“I’m not angry,” she laughed. She kicked her feet in delight, and pounded her fists on his chest, laughing, Saidar filled her, not just with life and joy, but this time, with awe. With feathery flows of Air, she stroked his cheeks. “I am not angry, Lan,” she whispered. “Your block is gone.” He grinned, sharing her delight, but the grin put no warmth into his eyes. I will take care of you, Lan Mandragoran, she promised silently. I will not let you die.
