Blurbos is an archive of my Kindle highlights. Kindle’s highlighting system is a bit of a closed wall, and a pain to organize, backup, and archive, so I wanted an external method of keeping track of my highlights. Unfortunately, this is a historically incomplete view of all of my highlights, due to device failure & not backing up My Clippings.txt files over the years. Some books are incomplete, some are full, some won’t exist here due to loss.
The idea is to maintain it moving forward.
Highlights do not equal a personal endorsement of the content.
There may be better methods for storing, exporting, or archiving your highlights than this. There are a number of paid and free options out there, but I wanted something that was more of my own. There will be no ads, and no affiliate links. I will make no money off of this site.
If you’re looking for a Kindle highlights archiving solution, I’d recommend looking into some of the following options. Note that I’m not affiliated with any of these items. Your mileage may vary. Some of these are free, some are not. In no particular order:
- Reflect
- Kindle Mate
- Readwise
- Clippings.io
- Goodreads
- Obsidian
- Bookcision
- Amazon’s built-in service
- Calibre
- Kindle Highlights Migrator
- Klib
- Notion
- Roam
My method for creating posts for this site is as follows:
- I use Kindle Mate to organize my highlights.
- From there, I export
Each book as a file
using these settings. - In each export, using Notepad, I do a Search and Replace for
Your Highlight
to change it to justHighlight
. - I created a Pattern in Gutenberg (this site is built using WordPress) using the following blocks: Star Ratings, Button, Text, Separator, and Code. Fill in those blanks with highlights. (A Code block is required since Kindle Mate exports book titles inside carrots, so the WordPress editor interprets it as HTML. There might be a better method here, but I’ve gone with the path of least resistance.)
- Add Categories for the author, rating, and series, as applicable.
- Add a featured image of the cover – note that this & the use of highlights is being used under Fair Use.
- Backdate to match up with my Goodreads read date (not perfect, but close enough). Publish.
